Statement

Artist statement May 2018

Our memory does not cope very well with everyday life: how voices sounded, rooms smelled, and things felt. Many things in every day life, which, due to the constant rush of time, are easily missed out on. In case you might see it, you suddenly forget it.

I photograph my nearest surroundings, in which I recognize my personal and familial spaces. Time and memory are inseparable with photography as a medium. In those everyday places, I find the suggestion of something which once was present and the sensation of an elapsed time. The marvel that I have for something that once was, in my eyes, only gets more profound, from the time that has passed it.

I mostly work with color film and make large prints of the photographs. The fragility and decay which have seemed to be a constant presence in my work are enlarged until almost all details are visible.
